After reviewing my presentation and absorbing all of the feedback given to me by my classmates I came to the following conclusions. I need to speak a little slower and have an even pace throughout the speech. I also want to try to extend the speech into the 5 minute mark, clocking in at around 3 minutes and 30 seconds. I think I can do that by adding more things to my speech. I also want to be more prepared with the memorization of the quotes that I have in my speech. I was definitely nervous that I was going to mess my quote up so I read it word for word on my speech, That disrupted the flow of my speech and I hope that I am able to have that down by next Tuesday. I also heard things from classmates that were positives so I know what I have to be doing and what is working which is extremely important to ensure that I get a good grade.

What I learned form the Amy Cuddy video was the importance of body language. In fact i learned about the relationship that humans and animals have with body language, with the wider stances being in a form of fear to protect oneself and the more comfortable and reserved is the opposite. I liked that that fact was presented and i feel that is how we can relate to and undertand our pets. The psychology of body language is also very interesting to me, i find it quite obvious that i can tell how someone is feeling based on their body language. This video provided me with the information to confirm my thoughts when reading body language. Those being, head down and slouched means sad or timid, or someone who has their head up and chest up may be projecting confidence even if they dont feel it.

Reflecting on my Lone Wolf speech I believe I was successful in the following ways: putting fourth a positive message, talking to the audience in a way with my voice projected, keeping it somewhat casual and adding some humility to my speech. Some things that I wish i couldve done better was have a better memorization of my quote at the beginning and practice what I preach and take a breath when I get nervous. I also wish I had a more professional looking outline, I was thinking that I would hit all of those topics ( which I feel like I did ) but I undertand that it couldve looked better and had more detail. I hope that I was able to display some of my strengths in regards to public speaking and giving speeches in general. In the future I hope I can only go upwards from here.

Reflection- What went well in my project is our practicing and oour meeting the day before the project. I think that helped benefit our preparedness. What also went well for our group is the flow of our speech, again i credit that to our dry run and practice from the previous night. The challenges we faced were trying to find a time to meet that fit in to all 4 group memebrs schedule. But, we were able to figure it out and evrything went according to plan. The thing that I would do next time is practice and be more prepared for my dry run. The advice that I would give to students doing this next year is communicate with your group, ask questions, and practice your speech.

In todays class we looked over and went through the projects from Mackie and Bens groups. This was a good way to help myself and my group by seeing what others had done. This helped us see what is working and what is not working. The peer review portion was very productive in getting to see how a larger audience would react to the handbook sites. We were able to converse as a group and we figured out what works with our handbook and what needs to improve. We found that our interviews and interview styles need to be uniform and look identical. There is still a ways to go for our site but we are not far from achieving that goal. This class session with the dry run presentation acted as a proper benchmark for what we need and how we can improve.

paragraph 3, pg 212
What I like about this passage is the fact that they describe or preceive organizations as a metaphor of machiene. Business edicate is something that gets braught up here too. This is not the suit and tie type of casual, this is the properly treating people type of edicate. The kind of thing where orgnizations want their employees to feel important and valued. To show their support and appreciation. They show their appreciation by holding company events for their workers and doing team bondning activties over a weekend. Although these are good ideas does not dictate wether or not its going to have a good effect on the forced comrodery.
passage 2, page 215
The hiearchy of the workplace is fastenating to me and that dynamic is brought up in this passage is discussed very well. The way that the higher ups deligate and assign tasks is through the forms of verbal and non verbal communication, so therefore there is no heiarchy withoiut communication. The workplace heirchy is created by the used of titles and job position. This effects the workers in the following ways, the workers have their own social staus and group based on where they are assigned within the company. How they interact with each other based on the delegation and assigning of tasks effects teh overall productivity of the compnay.
Question- Is there more people having problems with taking things from higher ups now than before?
comment- I think its interesting how communications shows up in everything but unless its talked aboit directly, no one notces that it is the backbone of human life.
quote- “The formality heirchy transaction may be the titles at work may be transacted by the tites in talk. “

Journal 17,

The section that I fund was very helpful was the first paragraph 8 on page 298. The section was called ” Preparing for an intervirew” This section talked about how to be prepared for an interview with your resume and how to properly set up your resume. I do have a resume that I have used that did not contain a cover page and I was still hired, so I am confused as to why that was mentioned here. This passage is would be helpful to someone who is a first time applicant or someone who is trying to refine their resume. The quotes like “stand out but in a good way” stand out to me as impprtant components.

The other section that I found helpful was on page 302 under “Recognizing the types of Interviews.” This is important if someone is applying for a position. They obviously ned to know what type of professionalism that needs to be displayed. Because a college interview and a college interview are a similar but also different setting. Youre going to have to be more personable than professional in a college interview situation as a means of showing off your individuality. As opposed to a job interview which should be in a strict professional setting.

Nothing was hard to undertannd about this chapter, it overall made sense and was sraightforward.

We here at Goofy Dumplings have spent multiple weeks assembling the ideal UNE handbook. Through that process we believe that we could have used an on site consultant to advise us and help us with our project. That is the person that we are looking for: a on site Project Consultant. The responsibilities of this person are to answer questions, add on to group discussion, help point Goofy Dumplings members in the right drection. As a project consltant you will be asked to work at least 30 hours a week as well as addditional paid overtime. This person is also responsible for spelling and grammar checking, as well as citing the sources for the project. This is so the Goofy Dumplings team can effectivly work on the project and not have to worry about other aspects that arent based on the content of the project. The expectation that this will work like how it does in a newsroom where one person or group does the project or paper and then it will be edited by another, and then published. Some of the minor duties that are expected with this role include presentation cue cards and timing the presentation should we be timed. We would also like to have this person complete their degree if they are in college, that doesnt effect employment and we are flexible on those hours. We undertand this is not a forever position so we here at Goofy Dumplings are committed to helping you achieve your goal. The first requirement is a highschool diploma. The second requirement is WordPress expierence or Google Sites expierence. The third final requirement is customer service expierence, this is because you learn valuable lessons from those jobs and you learn about yourself. Things we would like to know: What are your 3 greatest achievements? How would a teacher, coach, or mentor describe you? What are qualities that you have that will set you apart from oher applicants?

My role in this portion of this project was the first three sentences, when our group met we all agreed that the job title as well as the sentence structure was suitable for the job. We alos all agreed on the paid overtime portion of that. Additionally we agreed on the non requirement of a college degree, but it is preferred when applying.

What may be concerning is the possible misunderstanding in regards to the non requirement of a college degree. This is because applicants without a college degree but are in persuit of one may be weary of getting and applying for the job. I understand this but, I dont think that a college degree is completley necessary for this position, however, a commitent to a higher education does help.

Why should people work for you? What abour your job description stands out as opposed to others? Who are you looking to hire? Any specific person?

Something that I thought was helpful from the second half of the chapter was the personal appearance section. This was in the second passage regarding how to dress for an interview on page 308. This confirms the importance of proper dress edicuate and even mentions something along the lines of dressing “one step above” your competition to help you stand out form your competition. Also this says that you should hide tattoos and facial piercings which may be someting that some companies may tuen away forom. I find that interesting, because I have tattoos and a nose ring and no one has ever even asked me to take them out. I suppose that certian things can be covered up though.

The second thing that I found helpful in this chapter of the book was the section titled “Greeting and Establishing Appropriate Proxemics” This section is great to anyone who struggles with social interaction or someone who is looking to improve their interview skills or overall professional conversation skills. The biggest portion of this however is the paying attention of the nonverbal cues hat people piut pout when in these situations. You can tell if someone is impressed or just passing through depending on their body language. You can also see how your doing based on how the interview asks the qustion with their tone of voice.
